Description:

The Johns Hopkins Department of Medicine seeks candidates for Director of the Division of Clinical
Pharmacology. The Department of Medicine (DOM) is among the top departments in National Institutes of
Health funding with approximately $225 million annually in sponsored research funding, and two internal
medical residency programs with the Osler Medical House staff Training Program being one of the foremost
internal medicine residency programs in the country. The DOM has multiple clinical locations including the Johns
Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore and Howard County General Hospital,
Sibley Memorial Hospital and Suburban Hospital in the greater Baltimore/DC metro area as well as outpatient
clinic sites across the region. The Department of Medicine is the largest department in the Johns Hopkins School
of Medicine with 18 divisions and over 3,000 faculty, nurses, staff and trainees and is an integral part of Johns
Hopkins Medical Institutions (JHMI), which is a partnership between the School of Medicine and the Johns
Hopkins Hospital (JHH).

The Division of Clinical Pharmacology in the Department of Medicine at The Johns Hopkins University School of
Medicine is one of the oldest in the world and has a long history of laboratory and clinical research, teaching, and
service activities. Areas of investigation range across the spectrum of pharmacology: identification of promising
drug targets; preclinical studies of lead compounds; modeling of pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic
relationships; pharmacogenetics and personalized medicine; studies of kinetics, metabolism, safety and efficacy
of drugs in humans; rational use of drugs in clinical practice. We foster productive research collaborations across
various departments within the School of Medicine, the School of Public Health, and the School of Arts and
Sciences. Our faculty play a pivotal role in the acclaimed Graduate Training Program in Clinical Investigation, the
nation's first PhD program of its kind. The Division is composed of 15 faculty, 17 staff, with active research
funding totaling over $15M. The Division holds two endowments, the Paul S. Lietman Endowed Fellowship in
Clinical Pharmacology and the Wellcome Professorship in Clinical Pharmacology (held by the Division Director).
Throughout its history, and by means of its research and teaching missions, Clinical Pharmacology has shaped
the future of pharmacological research and education and continues the tradition of bringing a molecular
perspective to clinical investigation.

The Director is the spokesperson for the faculty of the Division. Responsibilities include promoting faculty;
recruiting and appointing new faculty; overseeing educational, clinical and research programs; and planning
short term and long-term strategic growth.

Qualifications:
Candidates must have a record consistent with appointment as an Associate or Full Professor of Medicine or
equivalent department. They must have an MD, PhD or equivalent, an outstanding record of accomplishments in
teaching, research, and service, and be eligible for licensure in Maryland. Candidates are required to have board
certification in Clinical Pharmacology or be in the process of obtaining it. The successful candidate needs to have
the demonstrated capacity to foster an environment in which excellence in teaching, research and scholarship
can flourish, as well as experience and interest in developing and leading clinical programs. Demonstrated
commitment to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in an academic environment is required. Successful
candidates will have a record of innovative and effective administrative and fiscal leadership, national stature in
academic internal medicine, a record of excellent interpersonal skills, and enjoy interactions with students, staff
and faculty. Candidates must be eligible for US employment.
